Acute Muscle Spasm after getting out of the bath

Amy couldn’t believe how different our treatment at Balance-Rite Osteopathy was compared to the physio

I called Balance-Rite Osteopathy Clinic in agony because I could hardly walk due to pain in my back. The previous day, I had been to see a physiotherapist with 25 years experience, in Ashford, Surrey and received no relief at all from my symptoms. She diagnosed an acute muscle spasm, barely touched me apart from some rocking of my back, advising my husband who was with me, that he should do this to me. She then gave me some exercises to do, which were impossible for me to do in the state I was in, as I needed help just to walk. I left there, feeling no different, still in agony and that I had wasted £45.00, as I could have looked up exercises for my back online. My mother-in-law convinced me to see her osteopath, Karen, who had won an award recently for ‘outstanding practice’ and that I certainly wouldn’t be wasting any more of my money as she is excellent.

I had to get a lift to her clinic, where I had to be helped in by my dad as I could barely walk. During examination I was unable to bend as I was in so much pain and Karen explained to me that my back had gone into a deep protective muscle spasm,  that was probably due to the underlying mechanical changes that occur in a woman’s body during pregnancy and delivery of a baby.

I had my first baby 12 weeks ago and since then had been experiencing some mild twinges in my back which amounted to nothing. After having had a bath, I got out and as I did I felt a pain in my low back, I walked out of the bathroom to get dressed but had to get help because I couldn’t bend down. The pain was as excruciating as when I had given birth!

Karen explained that I would need a course of intensive treatment over a one to two week period, to get me out of the acute pain I was in. I saw Karen daily for two days and felt some relief from the pain even before I left her clinic on that first treatment and felt even easier after the next treatment. I then had a gap of three days, during which time Karen gave me advice on how to help myself at home and said I should continue each day to feel easier, which I did. By the time I saw her again for the fourth treatment, a further three days later and only eight days after getting out of the bath, I was very much better, feeling only slight pain and able to move much easier and enjoy my baby again. After the sixth treatment, which was only 4 weeks after the initial pain – I was pain free and able to move normally again and am looking forward to my baby’s first Christmas! I dread to think where I would be had I not gone to see Karen.

Karen’s examination was thorough and included assessment of my whole body-not just where the muscle spasm was. Her actual treatment, also treated my whole body, not just where the pain was and each hands-on treatment lasted for a good 20-25 minutes. It was very gentle and she took the trouble to ensure I was as comfortable as I could be at all times, letting her know immediately if I felt discomfort so she could change what she was doing. I found her to be a very caring person and am not surprised at all that she won her award, the service and treatment she offers is absolutely outstanding and far superior to anything I have experienced before.

I am so pleased to be out of pain and would recommend someone who has recently had a baby, or anyone who has been having painful twinges to go visit her, before they have an episode of the pain I had experienced from just getting out of the bath!
