This patient had suffered with irritable type bowel symptoms for some years but also suffered with neck pain and back pain. Our whole body treatment approach, although aimed at the correction of mechanical dysfunction, can also have a beneficial effect on the different systems of the body. This is linked to the effect the musculo-skeletal system can have on the blood, nerve and lymphatic supplies to the separate organs of the body. Patients suffering with conditions such as irritable bowel or constipation may notice an improvement in their symptoms as the musculo-skeletal dysfunctions throughout their body improve. This ten year old girl presented with right shoulder pain, especially whilst writing at school. She had suffered a complicated fracture to her elbow 18 months prior to attending our clinic. The fracture had set incorrectly and had to be surgically broken and re-set, with plates and pins inserted, which were later removed. Whilst healing occurred she received intensive physiotherapy over one year and hydrotherapy for four months. No further treatment was advised at her 18 month check-up and she was left with very limited movement in her elbow, as can be seen in the photographs taken on 14.9.13. This case is shown in the hospitals for doctors who are undertaking training, as the worst case of this type of fracture that the consultant had seen. This patient has been suffering with low back pain since his early thirties and had visited osteopaths in the past who would ‘crack it back into place’. Now aged thirty nine, he came to Balance-Rite Osteopathy Clinic in agony, this episode worse than any other episode he had experienced. As a self-employed carpenter he could not afford to be off work with back pain.  In the left photograph it is clear to see how his body has compensated with a very protective muscle spasm, by shifting his pelvis to the right and his shoulders in response, to the left. Continue reading for details of how this patient was assessed and treated with our whole body approach. This patient presented primarily with neck pain but had other areas of discomfort in her chest, knees and right foot. She had seen an osteopath in Weybridge, Surrey two weeks earlier, where she had two sessions of osteopathic treatment which consisted of having only her neck massaged, articulated and then “cracked”. The rest of her body was not treated. Her neck felt easier after the second session, but it returned a couple of days later feeling much worse than it had done, before visiting the osteopath. The left photograph shows the whole body alignment of this patient after treatment in Weybridge & before treatment at our clinic. The right photograph shows this patient after only ONE treatment at Balance-Rite Osteopathy Clinic.
