This eleven year old boy was brought into clinic by his parents for a check of his spine because of a family history of scoliosis. Viewing his back in a standing posture the evidence of scoliosis was not yet marked and therefore not easy to be picked up by his parents. However, clinical testing showed the presence of a left sided ‘rib-hump’ with an associated bending of the spine. This can be clearly seen in the left photograph, before treatment started, where the red line does not sit level across the entire rib cage and the left ribs rise up on that side, with the spine bending over towards the right. Examination of this patient using our whole body approach, also revealed mechanical dysfunctions in his pelvis which would give an un-level base for the spine to sit on, as well as torsioning of the hips and legs, causing flattened arches in the feet. This eleven year old boy had been suffering with right ankle pain during the day and at night, for 3 years before attending Balance-Rite Osteopathy Clinic. He was diagnosed by his Gp with ‘growing pains’ and four months before attending our clinic, was prescribed orthotics to put inside his shoes and trainers, to correct his dropped arches and flat feet. These did not help or improve his ankle pain.  After only one half-hour treatment at Balance-Rite Osteopathy Clinic, his symptom of pain had gone and one year on, still has not returned!  Continue reading to find out how our different approach to treatment eased his pain without the need for orthotics and why ‘growing pains’ should not be ignored. This child was suffering with low back pain, a keen cricket player at County level, complained of back pain after a particularly hard training session. After a thorough whole body assessment at Balance-Rite Osteopathy Clinic she was diagnosed with muscle strain, which was caused by dysfunctional mechanics in her pelvis and lumbar spine.  The misalignment is clearly seen in the left photograph before treatment, where the red central line starting between the middle of her feet, does not run centrally up through her spine and head and the pelvis is tilted upwards on the right. After treatment using our gentle, whole body approach, the photo on the right shows a now balanced and central pelvis able to support  a central spine and symmetrically balanced back muscles. Continue reading to find out why it’s necessary to treat children. Continue reading

This ten year old girl presented with right shoulder pain, especially whilst writing at school. She had suffered a complicated fracture to her elbow 18 months prior to attending our clinic. The fracture had set incorrectly and had to be surgically broken and re-set, with plates and pins inserted, which were later removed. Whilst healing occurred she received intensive physiotherapy over one year and hydrotherapy for four months. No further treatment was advised at her 18 month check-up and she was left with very limited movement in her elbow, as can be seen in the photographs taken on 14.9.13. This case is shown in the hospitals for doctors who are undertaking training, as the worst case of this type of fracture that the consultant had seen.
